Overview

This presentation was made to communicate a novel preclinical cancer model for paediatric brain tumours (Group 3 medulloblastoma) to an international audience of clinicians and researchers at the International Symposium on Paediatric Neuro-oncology (ISPNO), the world’s leading conference dedicated to childhood brain tumours.

The objective was to present complex scientific findings in a way that was detailed, clear, and engaging for a specialist audience.

My role

I designed both the scientific narrative and the presentation design, turning complex experimental data into a coherent story suitable for an international scientific conference full of specialists.

This involved structuring the presentation, messaging, designing slides to improve clarity, and making sure that the visual presentation supported the underlying scientific research.

Communication considerations

During conference presentations, the audience has only a few minutes to understand months or years of research, often while viewing complex data and figures from the back of a lecture theatre. Furthermore, ISPNO is the largest attended paediatric neuro-oncology conference in the world, and thus attendees are highly esteemed and well-versed scientists from the bench to the surgery table – the pinnacle of the field.

For this presentation, the focus was on visual communication without simplifying the science. The narrative and figures were structured so that each slide built logically on the previous one, allowing a specialist audience to follow the research confidently with understanding.
